Spray Foam Insulation Across North Georgia

Spray foam is a liquid that is applied on site and expands in place. It fills the gaps and awkward shapes that cut batts and blown material tend to miss, and it seals air movement at the same time as it insulates. It is applied as either open cell or closed cell, and the right one depends on the assembly rather than on preference.

Open cell is lighter and expands further, which suits interior assemblies and conditioned roof decks. Closed cell is denser, adds rigidity and handles moisture better, which is why it is the usual choice for crawl spaces, rim joists and metal buildings. The decision comes from the assembly, the moisture conditions and how the space is used. We settle it during the estimate, not over the phone.

It depends on the size of the area, which foam the assembly calls for, the thickness required, the access and whether anything has to be removed first. We do not quote a price per square foot before seeing the building, because that number moves too much to be useful. The estimate is free and it tells you what is included and what is not.

Spray foam is designed to last for the life of the building. It does not settle or slump the way loose material can. What matters more over time is whether the installation covered the whole thermal boundary properly and whether any moisture problem underneath it was dealt with first.

It can be part of the answer, but it is not the whole answer. A crawl space with standing water, a drainage problem or a failed vapour barrier needs that cause addressed first. Sealing a wet space without fixing the source hides the problem instead of solving it. We look at the ground, the vents, the drainage and the rim joist before recommending anything.

Open-cell foam does dampen airborne sound within an assembly, and people often notice it in a bonus room or an upstairs bedroom. It is a useful side effect rather than a soundproofing system. If noise is the main thing you are trying to solve, say so during the estimate, because the assembly matters more than the material.

Cured spray foam is inert. The part that needs care is the application itself, which is why the work area is controlled, the crew wears protective equipment and the space is ventilated for a set period before it is reoccupied. We tell you how long to stay out of the area before the crew starts, not after.

Both. New construction is simpler because the framing is open. Retrofit work is the larger part of what we do, and most of it is attics and crawl spaces where we can reach the assembly without opening finished walls. What is already in the space, and whether it needs to come out, is the first thing we check.
